Who you are agreeing with
SewSlay is run by Maksim Okunev (Max), a sole trader in the UK, at the address on the privacy page. You can reach us at [email protected].
By making an account you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use SewSlay.
What SewSlay is
SewSlay is a sewing studio in your browser. It keeps your measurements, your fabric stash and the patterns you bought, drafts its own ready patterns to your measurements, lays them out on your fabric, shows them through a projector and walks you through sewing them. All of that is free.
Some features use Claude, an AI made by Anthropic: reading your idea, planning a pattern, drafting your own design, writing a plan and answering questions. In SewSlay we call this the pattern engine. Using it needs a monthly plan; each AI button says whether it uses a pattern.
Drafting your own design asks the pattern engine to lay out a pattern over SewSlay's own blocks, which SewSlay then draws and checks. A design that does not pass the checks gives you no pattern and does not use one.
Only some of SewSlay's ready patterns are marked tested. Every other pattern, your own designs included, is a draft to true up by hand: sew a quick toile before you cut your good fabric.
A draft is a draft
Patterns are drafted from the measurements you give. Bodies, fabrics and machines vary, so we can't promise that anything will fit.
For a first make of a new shape, make a toile first: a quick test version in cheap fabric, before you cut the good stuff. AI answers can be wrong; check anything that matters before you cut.
We are not responsible for fabric cut from a pattern that didn't fit. You decide what to cut.
Your account
- You must be 18 or over.
- One account is for one person. Keep your email account safe, because anyone who can read your email can sign in as you.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using your account.
Monthly plans
The plans are: £5 a month for 10 patterns; £19 a month for 50 patterns; £49 a month for 150 patterns; £199 a month for 750 patterns.
- A plan renews automatically every month, on the date you started it, until you cancel. We show the price and the renewal before you pay, and email you a copy.
- Cancel any time from your Account page (Manage plan). Your plan then runs to the end of the month you paid for, and you are not charged again.
- If you upgrade, the bigger plan's patterns are yours straight away, and Stripe charges the difference for the rest of the month. If you downgrade, the change happens at the start of your next month.
- If a payment fails, the pattern engine keeps working with the patterns you have left for 7 days while the card is tried again. After that it pauses until a payment goes through. Everything else keeps working.
- If we change a plan's price, we will email you at least 30 days before. You can cancel before it applies to you.
Cancelling and refunds are explained on the refunds and cancelling page.
What one pattern is
One pattern is one new design drafted for you: a pattern from a description you confirmed, your own design, or a plan in words.
These don't use a pattern:
- Reading your description, and reading it again after you edit it, is free 10 times for a make. After that, one pattern covers the next 10 reads.
- Asking again for a design you already had on a make is free 2 times. It is the same design only while what it is made from is unchanged: your description, the reading and your answers, the make's name and notes, and the measurements it is sized to. After that, each one uses a pattern.
- Redrawing a pattern you have for new measurements is free. It does not ask the pattern engine again.
- SewSlay's own tested patterns are free.
- Sewing questions are free.
If a design fails on our side, or no usable pattern comes out of it, it does not count. Your patterns reset when each month of your plan starts. Unused patterns do not carry over.
Fair use and limits
To keep SewSlay working for everyone, and to stop a runaway script from running up calls:
- One account can make up to 60 AI calls in ten minutes and 600 in a day.
- Each account has 95.367431640625 MB for pictures, fabric photos and the pattern PDFs you keep in Your patterns.
- If something on our side goes wrong (AI cost that no plan paid for passes a daily safety limit), AI features pause for everyone until the next day. Busy days never pause anyone. No pattern is used while it is paused.
- Plans are for one person sewing. Generating patterns by script or any other automated means is not fair use on any plan, the biggest one included; if we see it, we may pause the pattern engine on that account and will tell you why.
- If a payment is disputed with your bank, AI features pause on your account until it is settled.
Please don't upload anything illegal, anything you don't have the right to share, or pictures of other people without their agreement, and don't try to break, overload or get around SewSlay's limits. If you do, we may pause or close your account, and we will tell you why.
Your content
What you put in stays yours. You let us store it and process it only to run SewSlay for you, including sending it to Anthropic when you use an AI feature.
Patterns drafted for you are yours to sew, for yourself, as gifts or to sell what you make.
Leaving, or if we close
- You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. Your plan is cancelled with it, so you are not charged again.
- If we ever close SewSlay, we will email you at least 30 days before, stop taking payments, refund the part of your last month we won't provide, and give you time to export your data.
Our responsibility to you
We provide SewSlay with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. Your rights as a consumer are not affected.
Otherwise we aren't responsible for losses we couldn't have foreseen, or for problems with your own devices, printer or projector.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will email you before the change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel your plan or delete your account.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your own courts.
If something goes wrong, please write to [email protected] first. We read every email.
